Concert, dinner planned May 1 at River Hills Community Church

The Music Men and Sometime Singers of River Hills Community Church will hold a public concert at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 1, in the sanctuary at 104 Hamilton’s Ferry Road.

Songs include “Under the Boardwalk,” “At Last,” “42nd Street,” “Great Balls of Fire,” as well as a Broadway review of “The Sound of Music.”

Dinner will be served in the gym at 5:30 p.m. It will be ham and broccoli or spinach quiche, grilled potatoes and onion, and muffins. Children’s menu is ham bites, dino bites and potatoes. Cost is $6 for adults, $2 for children younger than 12, $15 max for family (two adults and two children), $21 max for family (all adults).

Learn to country dance

St. John’s United Methodist Church, 321 S. Oakland Ave., will have country dance classes beginning Monday, May 6, from 7:30 to 9 p.m.

Instructor Steve Buchanan will teach standard choreographed routines for couples dancing. You do not need a partner.

Knights of Columbus open house set

The All Saints Council of the Knights of Columbus will hold their annual open house at 7 p.m. May 14.

All men who are practicing Catholics and older than 18 are invited.

The event will run about one hour, and refreshments will be served. For more information, call 803-493-1948.

New Beginnings seeks volunteers

Volunteers are needed for God’s Kitchen, a ministry of New Beginnings Baptist Church, which delivers meals to at least 120 shut-ins each day.

Volunteers also are being sought for the Lighthouse Thrift Store, which helps provide housing for the homeless. Volunteers will help with daily operations, including delivery, pickup and sorting donations.

Tent revival May 14-18 in Clover

A tent revival with evangelist Scott Callahan of Fort Mill will be held in Clover, at U.S. 321 and Hawthorne Lane, from Tuesday, May 14-18.

The event will begin at 7:30 p.m. nightly and is open to the community. It will include live music and singing and prayers for the sick.

Christ the King’s summer camp signup open

Registration is open for two summer camps at Christ the King Church, 13501 S. Tryon St.

Camp Sonshine will be held 9 a.m.-1 p.m. June 17-20 for 3 year olds through rising kindergarteners, who will make crafts, go on nature hikes, hear Bible stories, sing songs and more. The cost is $75.

Camp Agape will be held 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Aug. 5-9 for rising first- through fifth-graders, who will play games, sing songs, make crafts, nature activities, Bible studies and more. The cost is $100.

Community Cafe serving lunch

The Community Cafe offers free weekly lunches from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesdays at Lake Wylie Christian Assembly.

The Cafe at Lake Wylie Lutheran Church in Fort Mill serves lunch 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Church hosts free exercise classes

Free exercises classes are offered Mondays at Christ the King Church, 13501 S. Tryon St. Class is taught by Kathryn Webner, registered nurse, health fitness specialist and a personal trainer.

The Beginner Strength & Conditioning Class is from 5:30 to 6 p.m. targeting balance, endurance and improved muscular strength. This class is appropriate for seniors, the non- exerciser, or someone recovering from an injury. The Group Circuit Class from 6 to 7 p.m. is designed to improve total body strength and cardiovascular fitness. This class if offered for all fitness levels, 12 years and older. Bring a mat, towel and water.

Ultimate Life Church on Carowinds Boulevard offers support for people coping with losses in life such as divorce, death, jobs, loved ones, dreams, friends. Groups meet at 7 p.m. the first and fourth Fridays of each month. Call 803-329-1396.

Singles groups meets Tuesdays

New River Community Church is holding two singles groups, both meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesdays.

• FUSION is for anyone out of high school to age 24. The group meets at a member’s home in York. Singles can build friendships through studying God’s Word together, serving in the community, having fun, and discussing challenges of life.

• Singles Gatherings is for adults ages 25 and older. The group meets at the church, 133 Carroll Cove Road. Connection and Bible study are the primary focuses. Child care is provided for children 10 and younger.

Scherer hosts moms

Scherer Presbyterian Church, 4800 Charlotte Hwy., hosts REST4Moms from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. the second Tuesday of the month.

Mothers begin the morning with coffee, tea and goodies, followed by topics of interest, crafts, conversation and discussion. Children are treated to crafts, snacks and playtime. Annual cost is $10.
