Charity tournament

May 21

Sponsorships are available for the Family Trust Federal Credit Union’s fourth annual Charity Golf Tournament for the Children’s Attention Home, the Palmetto School at the Children’s Attention Home Charter School, and the Boys & Girls Clubs of York County.

The tournament will begin with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. May 21 at the Tega Cay Golf Club on Molokai Drive.

Entry fee is $400 per team and includes carts, green fees, beverages and lunch.

June 8 in York

The Might Acts Golf Tournament of Central Steele Creek Presbyterian Church will be held June 8 at Carolina Crossing Golf Club, 140 Carolina Crossing Drive, York.

Shotgun start is at 1 p.m. Format is captain’s choice.

There will be prizes for lowest team score, longest drive, closest to the pin, hole-in-one and putting contest.

Driving range, with bucket of balls included, opens at 11:30 a.m. with lunch at noon.

The Gene Knight “Play for the Child” Golf Tournament will be June 7 at Spring Lake Country Club.

Registration is at 9:30 a.m. with an 11 a.m. shotgun start. Prizes are at 4 p.m.

Entry fee costs $100 per person, which includes greens fee, cart, flight prizes, two mulligans, two closest to the pin, barbecue and a York Place golf shirt.

State tournament May 17-19

Bonzini USA Foosball, in partnership with the South Carolina Foosball Players Association and Rock Hill/York County Convention & Visitors Bureau, will be hosting the fifth annual South Carolina State Foosball Championships May 17-19 at Beef ’O’Brady’s.

The S.C. Shockers 13U baseball team is looking for players for the summer season. There is a 10- to 11-player max roster, so all the players will get ample playing time.

Cubs prevail

over Angels

Minor league baseball results from April 30: Cubs 9, Angels 2. The Cubs followed up their first tie of the season with a 9-2 win against the Angels. Tyler Brothers went 2-2 with 2 singles, 2 walks and 2 RBIs for the Cubs. Kadin Cross, Jacob Martin and Nico Bartolotti teamed up for a 2 hit, 2 run effort. The three combined for 15 strikeouts. Stephen Yarab came on strong in relief for the Angels, striking out 9 and only giving up 2 runs in 3 innings of work.


Doughnut Dash Saturday in Charlotte

24 Hours of Booty Inc. will be the beneficiary of the inaugural Krispy Kreme Doughnut Dash starting at 7:30 a.m. Saturday, May 11, in Charlotte.

The 4.8-mile race starts and ends on Greenwich Drive in Cotswold, near the Krispy Kreme on 119 N. Sharon Amity Road.

During this non-sanctioned 4.8-mile run/walk, participants have the option of signing up as a competitive or recreational runner. All runners will run the first 2.26 miles. At this point, the competitive runners will eat a dozen doughnuts, and then continue the final 2.54 miles to the finish. The recreational runners may eat as many or few doughnuts as they want, take the rest home to enjoy or elect, at the time of their registration, to donate their doughnuts to the cancer centers.

Registration costs $35 through Wednesday, May 8. There is no event-day registration. Visit Proceeds support the 24 Hours of Booty charity cycling event to fight cancer.

Cannoli Run May 18 in Fort Mill

The first Cannoli Run will begin at 8:30 a.m. May 18 at St. Philip Neri Church during the 18th annual Italian Festival. Half of the proceeds will go to Fort Mill Care Center.

Trophied divisions are senior 60 and older, adult 16 to 59 and junior 7 to 15.

Cost is $25 for adults, $15 for seniors. Advance registration includes T-shirt and gift bag.

The 1-mile family fun run is a $5 donation.

The 100-yard dash is free with prizes for children ages 6 and younger.

The Lake Wylie Chamber of Commerce’s Splash Dash 10K and 5K will be June 8 at River Hills Plantation.

The races begin at 8 a.m. CMC-Steele Creek is the premiere sponsor.

The second annual Carolina Thread Trail’s Thread The Thread Twilight 5K Trail Race & Fun Run will be held at 6 p.m. May 18 at Anne Springs Close Greenway.

This trail run event includes a 5K race or 1-mile fun run for all ages, along with an after party of local food, local beer and local live music.

There are 250 spots for the 5K. Cost is $25 through April 11, $30 April 12-May 16, or $35 race day.

The 1-mile run/walk costs $10 through April 11, $15 April 12-May 11, or $20 race day.

Join Fun 4 Four tourney

Registration is open for the Fun 4 Four tennis tournament at River Hills Country Club being held May 31-June 2. You do not have to be a member of River Hills Country Club to play. Format is team of four players (two men and two women).

Play men’s doubles, ladies doubles and two mixed doubles matches. Play each team in your flight - 6.0, 6.5, 7.0, 7.5, 8.0 or 8.5/9.0. Each doubles will be a regular set with a tiebreaker at 5-5.

two camps

Clover High School Boys Basketball Coach Bailey Jackson announces two summer camps for youth.

“Little Eagles” basketball camp from 9-11:30 a.m. June 10-13 at Clover High School for students who have completed grades K5-sixth. The cost is $55.

Along with the Clover Recreation Department, the third annual Basketball 101 Academy will be held from 9-11 a.m. July 8-11 at Oakridge Middle School for students who have completed K5-seventh grade. The cost is $50.
