Lake Wylie Athletic Association posts minor league results:

• May 4: Cubs 7, Newport 6. The Cubs defeated the Newport Tigers 7-6 with a sixth-inning rally for their second straight win. Caleb Ashley brought Caleb Knight home with a hit single up the middle with two outs in bottom of the sixth. Brody Zemaitis went 1 for 2 with a single and a walk.

• May 2: Nationals 5, Braves 4. Nationals jumped to an early 4-1 lead after the first inning of a play behind Chad Callaway’s base-clearing 3 RBI single. But the Braves received relief pitching from Drew Galloway (4 innings pitched, 0 hits and 0 runs allowed) and defensive plays from Ayden Sabol, Gabe Carroll, Jake Ferguson and Ean Jackson to keep the Nationals from scoring more. Nationals received pitching performances of their own from Chad Callaway (3 innings 7 Ks) and Caleb Cox (4 innings 8 Ks), as well as great defensive plays made by Caleb Cox and Sean McMahon. Going into the sixth, the Braves were down to their final at bat trailing 4-3, but Drew Galloway and Dallas Bradshaw tied the game at 4-4. In the bottom of the sixth, the Nationals’ Sean McMahon led off with a walk and got to third base with just one out. Braves pitching and defensive plays sent the game into extra innings. Nationals pitcher Caleb Cox in the top of the seventh made 2 strikeouts and great defensive play to rob Malik Johnson of a base hit. In the bottom of the inning, the Nationals received a lead-off walk from Rhys Sansom, Chad Callaway reached base on a ground ballfielder’s choice to second and was able to advance to third base with two outs. Preston Politsch delivered the first pitch, which drove in Chad Callaway for the Nationals win.

FOOSBALL

State tournament Friday-Sunday

Bonzini USA Foosball, in partnership with the South Carolina Foosball Players Association and Rock Hill/York County Convention & Visitors Bureau, will be hosting the fifth annual South Carolina State Foosball Championships Friday-Sunday, May 17-19, at Beef ’O’Brady’s.

A check presentation to the Boys & Girls Club will be held at noon Saturday, May 18.

Tennis

Join Fun 4 Four tourney

Registration is open for the Fun 4 Four tennis tournament at River Hills Country Club being held May 31-June 2. You do not have to be a member of River Hills Country Club to play. Format is team of four players (two men and two women).

Play men’s doubles, ladies doubles and two mixed doubles matches.

Baseball

LWAA looking for volunteers

Lake Wylie Athletic Association needs volunteers for concessions at Bethel Elementary School, and grass cutting and weed spraying at Crowders Creek Elementary School. Call 803-631-5161.

13U team needs players

The S.C. Shockers 13U baseball team is looking for players for the summer season. There is a 10- to 11-player max roster, so all the players will get ample playing time.

Running

Cannoli Run in Fort Mill Saturday

The first Cannoli Run will begin at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, May 18, at St. Philip Neri Church during the 18th annual Italian Festival. Half of the proceeds will go to Fort Mill Care Center.

Trophied divisions are senior 60 and older, adult 16 to 59 and junior 7 to 15.

Cost is $25 for adults, $15 for seniors. Advance registration includes T-shirt and gift bag.

The 1-mile family fun run is a $5 donation.

The 100-yard dash is free with prizes for children ages 6 and younger.

Fort Mill’s Thread Twilight 5K Saturday

The second annual Carolina Thread Trail’s Thread The Thread Twilight 5K Trail Race & Fun Run will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday, May 18, at Anne Springs Close Greenway.

This trail run event includes a 5K race or 1-mile fun run for all ages, along with an after party of local food, local beer and local live music.

Splash Dash June 8 at Wylie

The Lake Wylie Chamber of Commerce’s Splash Dash 10K and 5K will be June 8 at River Hills Plantation.

The races begin at 8 a.m. CMC-Steele Creek is the premiere sponsor.

CHS coach announces camps

Clover High School Boys Basketball Coach Bailey Jackson announces two summer camps for youth.

“Little Eagles” basketball camp from 9-11:30 a.m. June 10-13 at Clover High School for students who have completed grades K5-sixth. The cost is $55.

The third annual Basketball 101 Academy will be held from 9-11 a.m. July 8-11 at Oakridge Middle School for students who have completed K5-seventh grade. The cost is $50.

Clover Jaycees tourney Saturday

The Clover Jaycees will host a golf tournament Saturday, May 18, at Green Meadows Golf Club in Mount Holly, N.C., with a shotgun start at 8 a.m.

Lunch and beverage cart will be provided.

Proceeds benefit local community projects, Jaycee Camp Hope and the building fund.
