Homes at Shoppes ‘can’t get started fast enough’

— Shoppes at the Landing could soon have residents.

David Weekley Homes expects to have its first model homes finished by mid-June. There will be 25 single-family homes at Cottages at The Landing.

“We’re looking at the $200s to low $300s,” said Preston Nowaski, company sales consultant.

There will be six plans, ranch and two-stories. Buyers can choose from one of three showcase homes or choose their own plan on an available lot. So far, Nowaski said, interest from potential buyers has been strong.

“Extremely high,” he said. “We can’t get it started fast enough.”

The Cottages project is a return to Lake Wylie for the company, almost a return to the same spot. David Weekley built homes in The Landing a decade ago. Strong schools and lower taxes make Lake Wylie attractive to builders, Nowaski said.

“We’re happy to be back,” he said.

The residential side isn’t the only part of the Shoppes project. Four commercial properties remain up for development along S.C. 49 and two more on Nautical Drive. Lake Wylie Business Centre and Lake Wylie Professional Center already house businesses, including homebuilding, medical care, dentistry, accounting, legal services, Lake Wylie Chamber of Commerce and Lake Wylie Pilot.

Will Jordan, senior broker with The Tuttle Co., said there has been interest in the remaining outparcel, but nothing is set yet.

“There has been some restaurant interest recently,” he said.
