York orchard awarded for hard ciders

Windy Hill Orchard & Cidery has been awarded medals for its hard ciders at the annual Great Lakes International Cider and Perry Competition, which included more than 400 entrants.

The Orchard & Cidery will be open for tastings June 8-9 during the York County Ag+Art Tour.

Chambers host honor student banquet

An honor student recognition banquet sponsored by the Greater Clover and Lake Wylie chambers of commerce will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 22, at Lake Wylie Christian Assembly, 5766 Charlotte Hwy.

“Today’s Students, Tomorrow’s Leaders” banquet recognizes the top 50 students in the Clover High School’s Class of 2013.

Applications available for business competition

Gaston Regional and Montcross Area chambers of commerce have launched the Launch Pad, a business plan competition similar to television’s “Shark Tank.” Applications are due by June 28.

Grants will be awarded for first place, $12,500; second, $7,500; and third, $3,500.

The final competition will be held Oct. 17 at Gastonia Conference Center.

Small businesses or entrepreneurs with a desire to further develop existing business or start a business in Gaston County with ongoing mentoring and exposure are encouraged to apply.

The Launch Pad committee will review all applications and contact applicants on July 19. All applicants will receive constructive feedback. Applicants will present their idea to the committee on Sept.10, where they will receive constructive recommendations to improve their presentation in anticipation of the Oct. 17 live competition.

Arts council to honor businesses

The Business and the Arts Partnership Award winner will be honored at the Arts Council of York County’s annual celebration June 13 at the Community Performance Center, 249 E. Main St.

The award recognizes businesses for impact; involvement in the arts including employee volunteers, donation of in-kind services and goods, tie-ins that involve the arts in advertising, marketing, promotion and public relations campaigns, establishments of arts collections; and originality of the support programs.
