Words are not enough to thank him

May 28, 2013

Richard Burkin has lived in the bluffs at River Hills for six years. He is an ex-Marine who is community minded, friendly, patriotic. I though you might be interested in knowing of his latest project.

He had a vision of waking up in the morning, looking out his condo and seeing every condo on Greenridge Road flying an American flag in tribute to our troops. A sign of patriotism from all of us on the block to all servicemen and servicewomen for protecting out lives while risking theirs.

He started his venture going from door to door asking each condo owner if they would join him and those of us who already showed our respect by flying the American flag.

When there was an empty condo, he took it upon himself to provide them with a flag and installed it. There were condo owners who were unable to install their flags, and he did that for them as well.

Richard’s goal was to have this venture completed in time for Memorial Day.

Well, I met Richard and his wife, Ivy, when taking my walk this morning. We stood at the head of Greenridge Road and rejoiced in seeing every single condo flying the American flag. A great sight indeed.

We on Greenridge salute Richard for reminding all of us what is really important in this day and for taking the time to go the extra mile to make it happen.
