Boy Scouts reunion May 30 in Rock Hill

The York District of the Palmetto Council, Boy Scouts of America invites every York County resident who has participated in the Scouting program anywhere at any time to a Scouting Alumni Reunion at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, May 30, at Westminster Park, 4000 India Hook Road.

A light meal will be provided. RSVP by emailing name and brief Scouting history to by Monday, May 27.

Rotary hosts Foundation for Carolinas June 4

Tammy Whisenant of Foundation for the Carolinas is scheduled to speak June 4 at the Lake Wylie Rotary Club meeting.

Meetings begin at noon Tuesdays at Good Samaritan United Methodist Church, 5220 Crowders Cove Lane.

S.C. Rep. Tommy Pope will speak June 11.

Lions golf tourney honors members

River Hills Lions Club Memorial Celebration Golf Tournament will be held June 17 at River Hills Country Club honoring six former Lions for their dedicated service to the organization, and who lost their lives in the last several months.

Tournament format will be Captain’s Choice. Prizes include a $20,000 boat for the first hole-in-one on Hole No. 11, a trip for two to Las Vegas, a one-week stay at a resort condominium, and $2,500 each for the man and woman lucky or skilled enough to make a 60-foot putt. There also will be bonus prizes for holes-in-one on the other par 3s.

Master Gardener applications accepted

Clemson Extension Service is taking applications for the Master Gardener Class. The class will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Tuesdays Aug. 6-Nov. 12 at the Clemson Extension Office, 120 N. Congress St.

The program is open to all adults, regardless of gardening experience. Participants learn about all aspects of gardening from soils, to growing vegetables, fruits, trees, shrubs, flowers and lawns.

Class costs $300. In addition to the fee, participants must volunteer a minimum of 40 hours in service to the community.

Enrollment is limited, and applications are due by July 6. Applicants will be contacted in July. Call 803-684-9919 for more information.

Sweet Repeat gives back more than $70K

Sweet Repeat Charitable Foundation ends its 2012 year giving more than $70,000 back to the community, thanks to Thrift Store donations and purchases, and the generosity of local businesses.
