Hillary Clinton goes public on Twitter

Her presidential aspirations may be unclear, but Hillary Clinton is officially declaring herself in social media by making public a Twitter account that is quickly garnering thousands of followers.

The account, which gained about 17,000 followers in an hour, was verified by Twitter and welcomed to the social network:

Clinton's first tweet references a popular, short-lived Tumblr with memes of the former Secretary of State:

She is following her husband, @billclinton, her daughter @chelseaclinton, and their nonprofit initiatives: @clintonglobal and @clintonfdn.

Former president Bill Clinton joined Twitter in April, after Comedy Central host Stephen Colbert created an account for him. He announced Hillary's arrival to his 715,000 followers:
