Lake Wylie golfers take on senior tournaments

Youth invited

to join tour

York County and Lake Wylie children ages 10 to 17 are invited to participate in a summer golf tour beginning June 30 at Fort Mill Golf Course. The youth tour will finish with a championship event Aug. 11 at The Palisades County Club.

One division will play nine holes, and the older division will play 18 holes. Winners will receive awards for each event and trophies for the top tour participants.

Cost to join the tour is $30; free to Fort Mill Junior Golf Association members. There is a participation fee for each event.

Wylie area golfers take

on Asheville

Final results from the Carolinas Golf Association’s Senior Four-Ball Tournament June 5 at the Country Club of Asheville, N.C., includes:

• Tournament Flight B (6,339 yards): 11th, Tom Bookmiller and Harold Fisher, both of Lake Wylie, 36-42 - 78.

• Super Senior Flight B (5,720 yards): 4th, Nick Locke, Lake Wylie, and Skip McPhail, Gastonia, 36-38 - 74; 9th, Ron Becht and Jim Schilling, both of Lake Wylie, 41-41 - 82.

Tournament format is 18 holes of four-ball stroke play, both gross and net.

Entry is open to any male amateur golfer who has reached his 55th birthday by the tournament date, is a member of a club which is a member of the Carolinas Golf Association, and has a current USGA handicap index at a CGA member club.

The field is divided into four flights based on age and total team course handicap: Tournament Flight A and B, and Super Senior Flight A and B.

Locals land 10th in Spartanburg

Final results from the Carolinas Golf Association’s Senior Four-Ball Tournament June 10 at the Carolina Country Club, Spartanburg, included Harold Fisher and Jim Sears, both of Lake Wylie, at 10th with 41-35 -76 in the Super Senior (both players age 65 and older at 5,732 yards) flight.

Camp scheduled for July

The third annual Basketball 101 Academy will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. July 8-11 at Oakridge Middle School for students who have completed K5-seventh grade.

CYCLING

24 Hours of Booty needs volunteers

Volunteer registration is open for the 12th annual 24 Hours of Booty presented by Levine Cancer Institute. This year’s charity cycling event is scheduled to roll on the Myers Park “Booty Loop” at 7 p.m. July 25 to 7 p.m. July 27 when 1,200 participants will be riding and raising money to help fight cancer.
