Jim Hickey Music moves to Carowinds area
FORT MILL Jim Hickey Music Ltd. moved June 3 into its new location at Carowinds Boulevard Office Park, 377 Rubin Center Drive, suite 118.
Jim Hickey Music has been providing music instruction to the Steele Creek/Tega Cay/Lake Wylie communities for five years. Basing instruction on the national music standards means all students are taught music theory (including sight reading) and given opportunities to perform as an individual/duo/group.
“Performance is more than getting up and putting on a good show. It is about being comfortable and confident in front of an audience,” said Jim Hickey, owner and lead instructor.
Jim Hickey Music Ltd. was started by Jim Hickey in the living room of his Steele Creek home in 2008. Jim Hickey Music Ltd. now has four instructors and offers lessons for guitar, bass, ukulele, piano, voice and home recording. Hickey and Larry Meadows released the Jam Exam App for guitar, bass and ukulele players in 2012. An e-book under the same name, to be used with the app, will be published at the Apple and Google stores later this year.

Construction underway at Chapel Cove community
LAKE WYLIE Chapel Cove, a master-planned waterfront community by Crescent Communities on Lake Wylie, is opening a new 5,000-square-foot amenities center and has 83 new home sites available.
The new center features a pool, tennis and pickleball courts, fitness room, canoe/kayak storage adjacent to the lake, and meeting space currently under construction. Standard Pacific Homes also will be building on 83 new home sites with newly developed floor plans and elevations.
Standard Pacific Homes is offering two new collections of home sites and plans at Chapel Cove. The first features 70-foot wide home sites and floor plans ranging from 2,600-3,400 square feet with options for master suites either upstairs or down. Pricing is anticipated from the low $300’s.
The other offering is 90-feet wide with floor plans ranging from 2,850 to 4,200 square feet, again with options of master suites upstairs or down. Pricing is anticipated to start in the $300,000 range.

Gaston Chamber launching new program
GASTONIA The Gaston Regional Chamber of Commerce announces a new program, Prospects Pipeline, dedicated to growing business for chamber members. The first meeting will be at 4 p.m. June 27 at the chamber office, 601 W. Franklin Blvd.
“The Chamber recognizes our role in helping members to increase their business,” says John Kimbrell, chamber president and CEO. “This new leads group will afford members an opportunity to learn more about the variety of businesses represented in our chamber and to glean viable leads from one another.”
The basic format of the new group will be each participant will have an allotted time to talk about their business and it’s value. The format will include:
• The participants will assist each other in methods that work to grow their business.
• There will be casual discussions about everyone’s business and how to identify their ideal client.
• There will be referrals from the group.
The first meeting will discuss the proposed format and receive feedback on other ideas needed from a referral group. The group will meet the second and fourth Thursdays of each month at 4p.m. at the chamber office.

Airport opens second cell phone lot for arrivals
CHARLOTTE Charlotte Douglas International Airport has opened a second Cell Phone Lot to assist drivers with parking who are awaiting arriving passengers.
The 120-space temporary lot is located on Rental Car Road, below the current Cell Phone Lot and adjacent to the Budget Rent-A-Car Return Center.
The lot is intended to ease congestion on the airport’s access roadway and in the primary Cell Phone Lot.
The airport’s original Cell Phone Lot remains open on Rental Car Road with 56 spaces.

Family trust promotes 2
ROCK HILL Two members of the marketing department at Family Trust Federal Credit Union have been promoted, according to Lee Gardner, president and CEO.
Sula Pettibon of Rock Hill has been promoted to vice president of marketing/community relations/business development. She joined Family Trust in 2009 and most recently was assistant vice president of community relations/business development. She will oversee a department of five and will be responsible for marketing initiatives, developing new products and services, and communicating with members, business partners, employees and the public.
She graduated in 1979 from Winthrop University with a communications degree, and worked 20 years at The Herald.
Katie Stacks of Rock Hill has been promoted to assistant vice president/marketing. She joined Family Trust in 2004 and most recently was marketing manager. She will have a greater role in overseeing marketing initiatives and developing new products and services.
She graduated in 2004 from Winthrop University with a degree in integrated marketing communications.
Photographer offers children’s camps
LAKE WYLIE Local artist and owner of KL Creative, Katherine Leonard, offers photography summer camps for children and teens at River Hills Marina.
Classes also include multi-media instruction and feature daily themed assignments. Students will take home a mini-portfolio of their finest work.
Classes are offered June 24-28, July 8-12, July 15-19, July 22-26, July 29-Aug. 2, and Aug. 5-9.
