Free vessel safety checks offered on Lake Wylie

The US Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 26-02 is offering the following free vessel safety checks:

• 9 a.m.-1 p.m. July 5 at Tega Cay Marina. Find out if you have all the required equipment on board.

• 1-4 p.m. July 7 at River Hills Marina.

• Vessel safety checks also will be held the first Sunday of the month all summer at the marina.

Boater safety course July 20

US Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 26-02 is offering the About Boating Safely Course from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. July 20 at River Hills Marina.

Cost is $35 for first family member and $10 for each addition member from the same family.

This course is being offered every third Saturday of the month throughout the year, except for December.

Covekeepers meet monthly

The Covekeepers, volunteers who work with Catawba Riverkeeper, meet the second Wednesday of the month at 7 p.m. at T-Bones on the Lake.

Water emergency team needs volunteers

The York County Emergency Response Team is seeking volunteers to join the team.

The team does water-related search, rescue and recovery, swift water rescue, low-angle rope rescue and search for missing people.

Lake Wylie Marine Commission meets at 7 p.m. the fourth Monday of the month at various locations in York, Gaston and Mecklenburg counties.
