— Sweet Repeat could be in its new home by Saturday, but it will be open for business even if it isn’t.

The thrift store is moving from its 10-year home in the back of Lake Wylie Plaza to the spot beside Fred’s, formerly Jac-Lyn’s Hallmark and Lake Wylie’s post office. Group members say they were told they’d need to relocate and were given a couple weeks to do so. Sweet Repeat Charitable Foundation Board member Clydia Wilson on Friday morning said she hoped to have the new location running by this weekend.

“We’re going to be moving in here as soon as we get it together,” she said. “The other site will still be open until we get all the stuff over here.”

The group signed a lease on the new space Thursday afternoon. Group leaders didn’t want to discuss rent specifics, but said the new cost is up significantly from what it has been in recent years. Some changes may come to help offset costs. The hours, now only open Thursday and Saturday, could change.

“It’s possible we’ll open an extra day once we get rolling,” Wilson said.

Wilson noted the perks of the new location including a larger space - more than 1,000 square feet bigger, highway frontage providing more visibility, an the former mailroom will be converted to stock furniture, sporting goods and more from community donations.

The spot vacated by Sweet Repeat will be used by Cheer Tumbling Academy, which neighbors the space. Owner Christy Cross started the academy in 2011, and now has seven staff members and more than 100 athletes coming through each week.

“We’ll be doubling our size,” she said. “We have a lot of girls, and we really need the space.”

Cross said the addition will allow for two complete floors and two teams to practice at once. There also will be a tumble track, or a long trampoline used in training.

Sweet Repeat has 80 members. Along with the dedication of many volunteers, the store two employees, a shopkeeper and bookkeeper. Money raised at the shop goes to local charitable groups each year. Almost $100,000 has been given away the past two years.
