Literary Society luncheon Saturday

The Rock Hill Luncheon Literary Society will sponsor poet, artist and editor Jonathan K. Rice from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 7, at David’s Steak & Seafood, 147 Herlong Ave.

Rice will share his personal approach to integrating art and poetry. A question-and-answer session will be included. Rice will have his books available for purchase and signing.

Rotary puts focus on Pilates

Jan Kessler will talk about the benefits of Pilates at the Sept. 10 Lake Wylie Rotary Club’s noon lunch meeting at Good Samaritan United Methodist Church, 5220 Crowders Cove Lane.

Guests are welcome to attend. Lunch, catered by Christopher’s, costs $9.

The club’s third annual Lake Wylie Luau is Saturday, Sept. 7, at Red Fez Club’s outdoor pavilion in Steele Creek on Lake Wylie.

Tickets cost $30 in advance, or $35 at the door, and include music, food, wine and beer, plus door prizes.

Sponsors and silent auction items are wanted. Proceeds go to Clover Area Assistance Center Full Choice Pantry Initiative and other programs.

Woman’s club tea Sept. 12

Clover Woman’s Club will meet for the membership tea at 4 p.m. Sept. 12 at Neel Cypher’s home on 811 Belwood Drive.

4-H, FFA livestock show Sept. 13-14

The 2013 York County Fall Livestock Show will be Sept. 13-14 at the High Tension Ranch, 930 Sandifer Road.

4-H and FFA members from South Carolina will be showing their livestock. Chicken show is at 5 p.m. Sept. 13, followed by the goat show at 6 p.m.. The sheep show is at 8:30 a.m. Sept. 14, with beef cattle show at 11 a.m. and dairy cattle show at 2 p.m.

At 10 a.m. Sept. 14, a horse show will be held at 8024 Park Place Road, York.

The show is free and open to the public. Food will be sold at both locations. For information , call 803-684-9919.

Fish fry served Sept. 15

The River Hills Lions Club is holding a fish fry from 2 to 7 p.m. Sept. 15 at Camp Thunderbird.

Food is provided by Catfish Cove. The menu consists of filet of flounder, chicken strips, hushpuppies, French fries, slaw and tea.

Tickets cost $10 for eat-in or dine out, with proceeds going to Lions charities. Tickets are available in advance at Q2U BBQ Pit, Bagel Boat or by calling 704-583-0349, and at the door.

Historical Society to meet Sept. 15

York County Genealogical & Historical Society meeting is at 3 p.m. Sept. 15 at Louis Pettus Archives at Winthrop University, 700 Cherry Road.

Archivist Gina White will talk about collections in the Louise Pettus Archives.

The exhibit “Pirates of the Carolinas” from the SC State Museum will be on display.

This meeting is open to the public.

Women’s luncheon Sept. 18

The River Hill’s Women’s Club Luncheon will begin at 11 a.m. Sept. 18 at River Hills Country Club.

Lions seek auction items for benefit dinner

The River Hills Lions Club seeks donations for its annual Benefit Dinner with live and silent auctions to be held Oct. 5 at River Hills Country Club. Proceeds go to River Hills/Lake Wylie EMS.

Examples of items needed include gift certificates, professional and college sports tickets, artwork, restaurant dinner packages, weekend getaways, automobiles, jewelry, theater tickets and Jet Skis.
