— Champions of the four-month long Thursday Night Tournament Trail were crowned in a two-day battle Sept. 6-7 on Lake Wylie.

“Conditions were tough, but the talented field of anglers found a way to put together some solid bags of fish,” said Erwin Gaston, who organizes the trail with Jeremy Cabe.

There were 41 teams qualified to fish the championship, held at Buster Boyd Access Area.

“Anglers reported catching fish on deep worms around brush, and in the shallows with jigs and buzzbaits,” Gaston said..

The team of Todd Garner and Shane Hartman bested the field with a combine two-day weight of 28.92 pounds. They took home $2,500 and first-place trophies.

The total payout for the tournament was more than $9,000 with 11 teams taking home checks, Gaston said.

“We would like to thank the anglers and a great group of sponsors for another great year of night fishing,” Gaston said. “We will start back up the first Thursday in April 2014, so put this date on your calendar so you won’t miss it.”

Trail sponsors are Greene’s Boat and Motor, Academy Sports, Kangaroo Express, A-1 Adams Bonds Agency, Koyote Tackle, True South Custom Lures, Lake Wylie Bait and Tackle, and Sparks Grading.
