CHS varsity brings home medals

Clover High School Cross Country competed against eight teams Sept. 7 in the Trojan Invitational at Northwestern High School.

The eight other teams competing were: Northwestern, Fort Mill, Rock Hill, Dutch Fork, South Pointe, Irmo, Weddington and Butler.

The girls varsity team competed in the morning with Emily Sparrow bringing home a medal, finishing fourth out of 60 runners with a time of 20:14. She ran five minutes faster this year than last year in the same race. Juhee Bhatt also improved her score by roughly five minutes finishing in 22:54. First-time runners Cassie Caldwell and Erika Pence finished in 23:15 and 24:14, respectively.

The boys varsity team placed fourth with Austin Highfill finishing ninth out of 64 runners with time of 17:10 and receiving a medal. Jonathan Bruney improved his time to 17:59 to come in 23rd. Returning runner Alex Wilson finished 28th with time of 18:14. New runner David Cole completed the race in 18:22 followed by new runner Nate Voght finishing in 18:49.

The teams competed Sept. 14 in Columbia at the Coaches Classic.

Super Hero 5K Oct. 12 in

Lake Wylie

Anytime Fitness will hold its second annual Super Hero 5K & Kids 1-mile Fun Run at 8:30 a.m. Oct. 12 to benefit the Lake Wylie Children’s Charity.

5K registration costs $25, while the fun run is $10.

Dream Center 5K Oct. 12

The Rock Hill Dream Center 5K, a benefit run to help raise money and awareness for the Rock Hill Dream Center, will be 9 a.m. Oct. 12.

Swing for pink Oct. 14

A Pink Golf Event will be Oct. 14 at Carolina Lakes Golf Club in Sun City. The proceeds benefit the Breast Screening Source of York County, serving Lancaster, York and Chester Counties, providing financial assistance for mammograms and diagnostic screening for the uninsured and underinsured.

The nine-hole scramble begins with check-in at 1 p.m.

Prizes are included for winning teams, closest to the line and best-dressed foursome. A hole-in-one prize too ll be awarded, also. Complimentary happy hour after gold.

Championship Oct. 2-5 in

Rock Hill

United States Disc Golf Championship 15th anniversary will be held Oct. 2-5. at Winthrop University Recreation Area.

The best players of the sport will be gathering to determine the game’s true champion and for a $50,000 purse.

U.S. Champion Will Schusterick of Nashville, Tenn., other world champs including Paul McBeth of California, Ken Climo of Clearwater, Fla., and players from Finland, Sweden and Germany will be there.

Tickets cost $10 per day or $25 for VIP pass for all days.
