Catawba Catfish Club launches series with 28 boats

September 20, 2013

— The 2013-14 tournament season hit the water Sept. 14 for the Catawba Catfish Club, with the first of nine events running through May.

The event was the first of three events on Lake Wateree, including the season final May 3.

“In the end, we had 24 of 28 boats weigh in with Team Reelin Da Blues picking up where they left off last year and picking up another win,” said Marty Green, tournament organizer.

The series also has three events on Lake Wylie on Nov. 9, Jan. 11 and April 12.

There were 62 anglers in the first tournament and a total pot of $1,240 with the top four paying out. A big fish pot of $270 was included.

Reelin Da Blues team members Jeff Manning and Michael Paciocco reeled in three fish weighing 85.50 pounds. They left with the win, but not the points lead.

Team Troller, Mark Follet and Bill Ward, finished second with three fish at 72.90 pounds, but also took big fish honors with a 50.20-pound blue catfish. That fish earned five bonus points pushing the team to the top ranking after one event.

Reelin Da Blues is a two-time series champion, and winners of the series last year. The next event will be held Oct. 5 on Fishing Creek Reservoir.
