OMS volleyball teams defeat rival Clover Middle

September 23, 2013

Volleyball

The seventh- and eighth-grade Oakridge Middle School volleyball teams both won Sept. 17 against Clover Middle School.

Oakridge seventh-grade Lady Eagles soared to a victory over Clover Middle, taking the win in two sets with scores of 25-13 and 25-20. As a team, they played well, setting up the hit and backing up their servers. Taylor Blake had several strong serves that earned the team points. Maddy McMullen had a couple of strong spikes. Tiffany Domingue added points by tipping the ball.

The eighth-grade team defeated Clover Middle in a nail-biting match. The team won the first match 25-23, lost the second match 23-25, but came back and won the third match 15-11. Top servers were Brooklyn Thomas, Bonnie Lee and Madison Lybrand. Savannah Bryant and Bonnie Lee led the team at the net.

Football

On Sept. 18, the seventh-grade OMS football team lost to York 24-0. The Golden Eagles improved from their previous outing. Offensively, OMS was able to move the ball and got close to the end zone twice, but did not score. Antonio Mitchell ran the ball well at fullback, and took several Cougars for a ride before they brought him down. Chance Woodworth, Blake Keffer and Wade Birkenbach also had good carries. The line blocked well. Defensively, after a couple mishaps, the Golden Eagles settled down and played a good game.

The OMS eighth-grade football team lost to a strong York team Sept. 18, with a final score of 32-0. York dominated OMS up front and controlled the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball. Connor Owens and Ethan Armstrong both had interceptions for the Golden Eagles. David Saleeba stepped up and played well at the quarterback position, while the starter was not able to make it to the game.
