Oakridge volleyball squeezes out wins; football teams fall to Springfield

September 28, 2013

• Seventh-grade football team played Springfield. Lost 8-6.

• The eighth-grade football team lost Sept. 25 at Springfield with a final of 33-6. Offensively, the team moved the ball well. Defensively, the Golden Eagles made too many mental errors, which allowed Springfield to move the ball with ease. The lone score for Oakridge came in the second quarter when Landon Albrick ran for a 40-yard touchdown. With only seconds to go before halftime, the Mustangs completed a pass down the sidelines, and the Springfield receiver was just about to score when David Saleeba tracked him down from behind inside the 10-yard line. The score at halftime was Springfield 12, Oakridge 6. OMS was right in the game, but Springfield returned the opening kickoff in the second half, and took the wind right out of Oakridge’s sails.

• On Sept. 26, Oakridge’s seventh-grade volleyball team beat Gold Hill Middle in two games winning each of them 25-16. The Lady Eagles were hustling and moving. They worked together to pass, set and hit the ball in as many volleys as possible. Maddy McMullen and Shia Jones had excellent nights in serving and hitting.

• The eighth-grade team squeezed out a win over Gold Hill, winning 2 of 3 sets. After losing the first set 14-25, the Lady Golden Eagles came back and won the next two sets 25-13 and 15-13. Anna Transou served an amazing game, completing a total of 16 serves throughout the match.
