— Art on Main returns to Fort Mill next weekend with a wider variety of artists and more fun for the family than ever, said Carol Dixon, one of the festival’s organizers.

The Oct. 5 festival will be held in downtown Fort Mill and features works from a variety of artists, including potters, painters, jewelers, a basket maker and more. Among the artists will be Laura Thomas, a Fort Mill potter and Pamela Krehan, a wood-turner also from Fort Mill.

“We’ve got more variety in craftsmen, so I think people will be real pleased,” Dixon said. “We have some outstanding artists.”

Entertainment will be provided by Scots Irish Music, Encore Dance Studio, Scottish Country Dancers, as well as jazz music by Baylor Drive, among others. Food vendors include hamburgers and hot dogs by the Lion’s Club, kettle corn and more, but Dixon also reminds people that downtown’s two restaurants – Local Dish and Savannah’s Tea Room – will be open for lunch.

For children, Art on Main offers more than ever before. A story walk will be set up in Confederate Park for children.

“They just go right through the park, reading parts of the story as they go,” Dixon said.

Chalk art will be in front of the bandstand on Main Street and a cotton patch will be set up as well, with Fort Mill resident Elizabeth Ford teaching children how to make angels from cotton bolls.

Pickles da Clown will be at the top of Main Street entertaining children. Face painting and pumpkin art will also be in the children’s area at the top of Main Street.

“So there is a little more in the way of artistic children’s events than we have done in the past,” Dixon said.

Student art will be on display throughout the day at the Fort Mill History Museum.

Festival-goers can stop at the museum to see a bit of Fort Mill history along with Fort Mill and Nation Ford High School student’s art work. Regular rates apply during Art on Main but an open house for the artwork will be held on Sept. 26 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. There will be no charge for admission that night.
