Kenny Ashley: It’s all about atmosphere

October 8, 2013

And be not conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. – Romans 12:2

During an interview with a group of astronauts, the crew was asked, “What do you think is the single most important key to successful space travel?”

One astronaut responded: “The secret of traveling in space is to take your own atmosphere with you.” ( Houston Chronicle, 11/7/96, p.9A)

Paul exhorted Christians not to be conformed to this world. This observation from space helps us better understand Paul’s admonition to be transformed. By carrying the atmosphere of Christ with us, we can brave the aliens of sin and continue to thrive in a hostile environment.

I have been seeking the Lord fervently of late as to what He wants me to teach and talk about. The message is always the same: “Tell them to trust me!” I don’t know what He is up to, but He is up to something. I have been teaching faith and trust forever and He told me not to stop. Every time I even think about another topic, He gently reminds me, “Just trust me.”

“You will keep in perfect peace him whose mind is steadfast, because he trusts in You.” (Isaiah 26:3)

“Blessed is the man who fears the Lord, who finds great delight in His commandments. He will have no fear of bad news; his heart is steadfast, trusting in the Lord.” (Psalm 112:1 & 7)

God’s peace is the atmosphere of a Christian who walks in a hostile, soulish, self-centered world. How do we keep that atmosphere in tact? Trust and obey. There is no other way.

Beloved, take God seriously today.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your paths.” (Proverbs 3:5-6, KJV)

As you walk in His spirit today, trusting Him without reservation, His peace will be your Teflon coating that will keep the crud of the world and the fiery darts of the enemy from sticking to you like beggar’s lice. Be unstickable today. Keep trusting Him.
