Yard sale donation items wanted

Pleasant Hill/Relevant Church, 15000 York Road, needs donations for a yard sale to be held 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Oct. 19 to benefit Mexico mission trip.

Items may be dropped off 4-6:30 p.m. Oct. 18 and 7-8:30 a.m. Oct. 19. All proceeds go the mission trip.

Trunk or treat planned at Pine Grove

Pine Grove Baptist Church, 5415 S.C. 557, Lake Wylie, will have a Trunk or Treat from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30. It will include games, door prizes, a cake walk, trunk or treating and a hot dog supper. Everyone is welcome.

Charlotte plans interfaith Thanksgiving service

Charlotte’s 38th Annual Interfaith Thanksgiving Service will be 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 26 at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 1000 E. Morehead St. The event is sponsored by Mecklenburg Ministries.

The evening will be filled with music by both the 200 person-strong Interfaith Adult and Children’s Choirs and the words of the Mecklenburg Ministries’ Youth Council as well as a list of interfaith Clergy from throughout Charlotte. The service opens with a Native American blessing and includes sacred texts from the Christian, Jewish, Hindu, Buddhist and Sikh traditions.

The message will be delivered this year by Dr. Ronald C. Carter, President of Johnson C. Smith University. Dr. Carter’s message is: “The courage to be thankful in tough times”.

The music is a highlight. There will be a musical prelude including Firebird Arts Alliance Vox Ensemble. The service opens with a celebration of the Native American culture and faith through the world premiere of “We All Sing”, from Three Potawatomi Songs. Composer William Neil will be with us as we debut this beautiful song through voice, instruments and drums.

Craft fair Oct. 19

Grace Presbyterian Church, 2955 Hwy. 160 W., will host an arts and crafts fair 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Oct. 19.

Community clothing closet open Oct. 19

Christ the King Church is hosting a free Community Clothing Closet event from 9 a.m. to noon Oct. 19.

In addition to the free clothing giveaway, the church food pantry will be open and giving out free groceries. The church health ministry will be providing free health checks, and the children and families ministry will provide a free craft area for children.

Cameron coming to Charlotte

When Kirk Cameron steps onto the stage at the Love Worth Fighting For event at 6 p.m. Oct. 26 at Northside Baptist Church, 333 Jeremiah Blvd., he hopes his audience is more than people struggling to keep their marriage alive.

The television and movie star knows from experience the advice, music and humor shared at the conferences will benefit people in all stages of life. Cameron, along with musical guest Warren Barfield will take part in this event, sponsored by Feed Your Faith.

The tour will be making more than 30 stops across the country including events in Ohio, Illinois, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Missouri, Texas and Alabama. Tickets range from $20 to $35 and are available as reserved seats or general admission for singles, couples, and groups of 10 or more.

Craft and Food Bazaar Nov. 2

Tirzah Associated Reformed Presbyterian Church, 6161 Mt. Gallant Road. presents Tirzah Fest Craft and Food Bazaar from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 2.

There will be crafts and baskets for Christmas giving for sale along with canned vegetables, frozen home-cooked casserole meals, fresh-baked cakes, cookies and candies and vendors.

Sausage biscuits with juice and coffee will be for sale beginning at 8 a.m., and Thanksgiving dinner with the trimmings at noon, with take-out starting at 10 a.m.

Proceeds benefit the Tirzah Women’s Missions Fund.

Dine Mondays for HOPE

The Waffle House-Lake Wylie and Knights of Columbus of All Saints Council No. 14475 are raising money for Operation HOPE (Helping Other People Everyday), a statewide campaign to help people with intellectual disabilities.

Every first Monday of the month, Waffle House will donate 20 percent of its proceeds to Operation HOPE.

The Community Cafe offers free weekly lunches 11:30 a.m.-2 p.m. Tuesdays at Lake Wylie Christian Assembly.

Church hosts free exercise classes

Free exercises classes are offered Mondays at Christ the King Church, 13501 S. Tryon St. The class is taught by Kathryn Webner, registered nurse, health fitness specialist and a personal trainer.

The Beginner Strength & Conditioning Class is from 5:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. targeting balance, endurance and improved muscular strength.

This class is appropriate for seniors, the non-exerciser, or someone recovering from an injury.

The Group Circuit Class from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. is designed to improve total body strength and cardiovascular fitness.

This class is offered for all fitness levels, 12 years and older. Bring a mat, towel and water.

Singles groups meets Tuesdays

New River Community Church is holding two singles groups, both meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesdays.

• FUSION is for anyone out of high school to age 24. The group meets at a member’s home in York. Singles can build friendships through studying God’s Word together, serving in the community, having fun, and discussing challenges of life.

• Singles Gatherings is for adults ages 25 and older. The group meets at the church, 133 Carroll Cove Road. Connection and Bible study are the primary focuses. Child care is provided for children 10 and younger.

Scherer hosts moms

Scherer Presbyterian Church, 4800 Charlotte Hwy., hosts REST4Moms from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. the second Tuesday of the month.

Mothers begin the morning with coffee, tea and goodies, followed by topics of interest, crafts, conversation and discussion. Children are treated to crafts, snacks and playtime. Annual cost is $10.
