Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police arrested a man Friday night for a marijuana possession charge but later discovered he was a fugitive wanted in Virginia.

About 7:15 p.m., officers were patrolling Oak Park Apartments near Nations Ford Road and arrested Dymond Moore, 19, for possessing marijuana, police said in a release.

Officers learned he had lied about his name and was wanted by the Hampton Police Department in Virginia for attempted robbery, attempted maiming and use of a firearm.

CMPD said Moore was wanted for two counts of robbery that involved shooting two people.

Detectives in Virginia had been searching for Moore in Virginia and Raleigh, and were planning to ask for help from the U.S. Marshal’s office.

Anyone with information about Moore is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
