Huntersville police say they are continuing to investigate a wreck that killed a Gaston County woman Tuesday.

Police have identified the victim as Nicole Wright, of Mount Holly.

Wright was riding in a Nissan Altima that collided with a Toyota Corolla about 10 a.m. on N.C. 73 (West Catawba Avenue) near the entrance to Blythe Landing park, police said.

The Huntersville Fire Department reported that the Toyota was eastbound on N.C. 73 and had entered a left-turn lane to turn into the park.

The Nissan was westbound and, according to witnesses, was traveling at a high rate of speed, the fire department’s report said.

The two cars collided and slid into a utility pole.

The driver of the Nissan, Brian Scott Atkins of Huntersville, and the driver of the Toyota, Trina Osborne of Charlotte, were taken to Carolinas Medical Center with serious injuries, according to police .

No charges have been filed in the case, but police said Wednesday that criminal charges are pending.
