Charlotte-Mecklenburg police arrested a 19-year-old suspect Friday evening in the shooting death of an 18-year-old woman on Halloween night.
Police arrested Deon Quintin McDonald and transported him to police headquarters, where detectives were scheduled to interview him and then charge him in the death of Azjee Rolanda Pierce, Officer Keith Trietley said late Friday.
Police were then scheduled to charge McDonald with murder, robbery with a dangerous weapon, conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, Trietley said.
McDonald will then be transferred to the Mecklenburg County Sheriffs Office, Trietley said.
Investigators said Pierce was killed and another person seriously injured in shootings around 9:15 p.m. Thursday at an apartment building in the 6200 block of Rosecroft Drive.
That is off East W.T. Harris Boulevard near Milton Road.
Police said they found two victims at the shooting scene. Pierce was declared dead at the scene. The other person, whose name has not been released, was taken by Medic to Carolinas Medical Center.
Detectives determined that the victims and suspect were known to each other and during the course of a drug transaction, the victims were shot. This was not a random act of violence.
Police ask that anyone with information in the case contact detectives at 704-432-TIPS. Information can also be left with Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
