Police said a motorist died Friday when he tried to make an illegal U-turn across a double-yellow line on West Tyvola Road and his 2001 Ford Escape struck a Ford F-150 truck in the westbound lanes.

Kenedi Douglas Ramirez, 27, was pronounced dead at the scene, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police Captain Andy Kornberg said.

Nathaniel Clevis Brewer, 55, the driver of the F-150, was transported to Carolinas Medical Center with minor injuries, Kornberg said.

Speed wasn’t a factor, and alcohol isn’t suspected, Kornberg said. Both Ramirez and Brewer were wearing seat belts.

The wreck happened about 3:10 p.m. in the 2800 block of West Tyvola, just beyond the Yorkmont Road intersection.

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600 or police detectives at 704-336-3229.
