N.C. Highway Patrol hunts man who escaped hospital

November 2, 2013

The N.C. Highway Patrol is looking for a man who led officers on a chase Saturday and later escaped from the hospital.

About 12:40 a.m., officers tried to pull over Jonquil Thompson, 28, of Charlotte, for driving 92 mph on Interstate 85 South in Charlotte, said Sgt. J.S. Nash.

A chase ensued for six minutes and ended – briefly – on Wilkinson Boulevard when a patrol car made him spin out and stop. After several seconds, Nash said, the driver tried to flee again but instead drove into a telephone pole.

Then Thompson, who Nash said was intoxicated, tried to escape on foot. He was tackled, Tased and arrested, Nash said. Thompson was taken to CMC Main, but Nash said he didn’t stay long: “He cut his IV and ran out the door.”

Anyone with information can call Crime Stoppers at 704-343-1600. Lindsay Ruebens
