Albemarle police said Sunday they were still trying to identify a suspect in the robbery and shooting of an 81-year-old coin shop owner Thursday.

Eldridge Roger Gibson died late Thursday, nearly five hours after he was shot at his shop during a robbery.

Gibson’s pickup truck was found Saturday afternoon, deep in a wooded area at City Lake Park in Albemarle. Police spent much of Saturday and Sunday continuing to sift through possible clues in the truck and at the B&G Coin Shop on West Main Street.

Police on Saturday released surveillance video photos, showing a man leaving the shop with two bags.

Investigators say the suspect was inside the store for about 20 minutes. He walked outside and drove off in Gibson’s Ford F-150 truck.

The park where the truck was found is a short distance from Gibson’s coin shop.

Albemarle police ask that anyone with information in the case contact them at 704-984-9500.
