Iredell deputies arrest man in vehicle theft case

Observer staff reportsNovember 4, 2013

— Iredell County deputies have arrested a man who they say was driving a vehicle that had been reported stolen.

The Sheriff’s Office says two of its deputies were helping the N.C. Highway Patrol about 11:30 p.m. Saturday on another case when they saw a vehicle leaving from behind businesses on Mocksville Highway.

Deputies stopped the driver on Mocksville Highway near Old Salem Road, a short distance northeast of Statesville.

Authorities say the driver was Billy Ray Locklear, 61, of Greensboro.

The vehicle had been reported stolen in Randolph County, according to deputies. They say Locklear has a lengthy history of arrest for larceny, breaking and entering, and other offenses.

Locklear was arrested on charges of possession of a stolen vehicle, displaying a fictitious license plate and driving while license revoked.
