The number of passengers using Charlotte Douglas International Airport is up 5 percent through September this year, the airport said Friday, putting the airport on track for another record year.

Officials said 32.5 million passengers used Charlotte Douglas in the first nine months of the year. The majority of passengers, about three quarters, use Charlotte Douglas to connect rather than as the start or endpoint of their trip.

The number of takeoffs and landings at Charlotte Douglas through September rose 1 percent, to 419,145.

Last year, 41.2 million passengers used Charlotte Douglas, the highest ever total. The airport is ranked as the eighth-busiest in the world by the number of passengers and sixth-busiest by takeoffs and landings.
