River Hills OMEGA team wins championship

River Hills Country Club beat the Peninsula Country Club for the OMEGA Championship Nov. 6, for the second year in a row.

Old Men Enjoying Golf Again (OMEGA) is an 18-team golf league made up of Charlotte area country clubs. Each team has 16 golfers age 55 years and older who compete in 10 matches.

Playoff teams this year are Carmel, River Run, Peninsula and River Hills. In the first round of playoffs, River Hills beat River Run 14-10 and Peninsula beat Carmel 13-11. In the championship match, River Hills beat Peninsula 15-9.

River Hills golfers are Bob Carroll, Tom Moletto, Nick Locke, Duff Armfield, Harold Fisher, Jim Jakubecy, Mike Shively, Allen Turk, Norm Saari, Clay Ramsey, Jim Schilling, Herb Towell, Harry Goff, Mike Emory, Mike Garrett and Ron Becht.


Championship coming to Rock Hill

The Rock Hill/York County Convention & Visitors Bureau and Rock Hill Parks, Recreation & Tourism Department will host the International Quidditch Southern US Regional Championship Feb. 15-16 at Manchester Meadows Soccer Complex.

Rock Hill will host about 25 colleges throughout the south for this championship, including Rock Hill’s Winthrop University.

Nearly 3,000 people are expected to come to the area for this International Quidditch Association event.

Quidditch was founded in 2005 at Middlebury College by then-freshman Xander Manshel. For more information, call 803-329-5200.


USA Football camp coming to Rock Hill

The Rock Hill/York County Convention & Visitors Bureau and Rock Hill schools will welcome the USA Football Regional Development Camp to South Pointe High School on April 12-13.

The USA Football Regional Development Camp is for athletes in grades 7-11 and focuses on development on and off the field. Participating athletes will have the opportunity to train with current NFL and NCAA coaches, listen and learn from former NFL players and receive an evaluation from an NFL or college scout.
