Police charge man in shooting death on Wednesday

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department on Saturday charged Marte Javon Kelly Edwards, 17, with murder in connecting with the shooting death of a man on Wednesday.

Patrol officers responded Wednesday at 11:47 p.m. to the 1100 block of Stonehenge Lane about shots being fired, but were unable to find any victims. They were then notified that a victim from the call had been located at the 3200 block of Beatties Ford Road, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

The victim, identified at Bob David Pate Jr., 25, was pronounced dead at Carolinas Medical Center.

In addition to murder, authorities said Edwards was also charged with attempted murder, robbery with a dangerous weapon, shooting into an occupied vehicle, assault by pointing a gun, and discharging a firearm within the city limits. He was transferred to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office.
