Today’s traffic: Dozens of wrecks across region

slyttle@charlotteobserver.comNovember 26, 2013

Ice is not a problem for Charlotte-area motorists at 8:45 a.m. Tuesday, but wet streets apparently are.

More than two dozen wrecks are being reported in the region at this time, and travel is slow for many motorists.

The biggest headache appears to be on southbound Interstate 85 in Gaston County. Two wrecks are being reported near the Belmont Abbey exit, and traffic is backed up for several miles, into Mecklenburg County.

Another problem is a tree that fell in Davidson, taking down power lines and closing Catawba Avenue at North Main Street. And a wreck on Catawba Avenue in Cornelius has knocked out power to several hundred customers west of the town.
