Charlotte-area motorists are keeping police and wrecker crews very busy, for the second straight morning.

At 10 a.m., the biggest problem was on Interstate 85 in Kannapolis.

The N.C. Department of Transportation reports a multi-vehicle crash blocking all northbound lanes of I-85 at the George Liles Parkway interchange (mile marker 54). Traffic is being detoured off I-85, across George Liles Parkway, and back onto I-85.

That is causing considerable delays on northbound I-85, back toward the Concord Mills area. Authorities say the lanes might be closed until 11:30 a.m.

Dozens of wrecks were reported earlier this Thursday morning across the region.

One of the big problems was on Central Avenue at Briar Creek Road. Police report a collision in the area with injuries, and power lines were knocked down.

Another big problem was a two-vehicle wreck at Stonewall Street and Charlottetowne Avenue. The crash was reported about 8 a.m., and it clogged traffic in the area, just east of uptown, for about 45 minutes.

Light to moderate rain is falling across the area this morning, and the wet streets might be contributing to problems.
