Oakridge Middle School wrestlers, eighth grade girls’ basketball team win

The Oakridge Middle School wrestling team started off the season with a win Dec. 4 against Nation Ford. The final score was 41-39 for Oakridge. The match came down to the final event with Cole Woodworth pinning his opponent to give the Golden Eagles the victory. The following wrestlers had pins: Dax Stegall, Owen Johnson, Bent Prikker, Gavin Colocino and Cole Woodworth. Also, Drew Brightman won on a technical fall decision and beat his opponent by 15 points.


• The eighth grade Oakridge Middle School boys suffered their first loss of the season Dec. 5 to a tough Springfield team with a final score of 49-19. The team committed more than 20 turnovers in the game, which turned into easy points for the Mustangs. Scoring for the Golden Eagles were: Kendall Strout, 6 points, 3 rebounds; Austin Gunnels, 4 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists; Alex Raine, 4 points, 5 rebounds, 3 steals; Hunter Walden, 3 points; David Saleeba, 2 points, 4 rebounds; and Will Griifith, 6 rebounds, 3 steals.

• The eighth grade girls’ basketball team beat Springfield on Dec. 5 with a final score of 27-19. The Golden Eagles played outstanding defense all night forcing several turnovers with their pressure. Leading the way for Oakridge were: Amber Lipscomb, 12 points, 11 steals; Madison Lybrand, 4 points, 6 steals, 4 rebounds; Megan Hanson, 4 points, 2 rebounds; Krystal Nielsen, 2 points, 3 steals, 2 rebounds; Brenna Allen, 2 points, 4 rebounds, 1 steal; Sydney Beatham, 2 points, 2 steals; and Emily Tsiukes, 1 steal, 1 rebound.

• On Dec. 5, the seventh grade OMS girls’ basketball team lost their season opener in overtime to Springfield 28-21. After falling behind by 8 points early, the team fought back to send the game into overtime, but just couldn’t convert their opportunities in the extra period. Tiffany Domingue led the team in scoring with 10. Tiona Walls added 4 points, while Madison McMullan, Sarah King and Shia Jones each added 2. Deylan Harkey finished the scoring with a point. Domingue led the team in rebounding and steals with 15 and 7. Walls and King added 7 rebounds each, while Lybrand, Jones and Harkey also added to the rebounding total. Emma Johnson, Tiona Walls, Megan Bailey, Madison McMullan and Sarah King all added to the team total of 14 steals.

• The seventh-grade OMS boys’ basketball team lost 51-7 on Dec. 5 to Springfield. OMS played hard and did not give up. Leading the way for the Golden Eagles were: Heze Massey, 5 points; Taylor Stoneburner, 2 points; Alex McClure, 4 rebounds, 1 steal; and Camden Largen, 2 rebounds, 2 steals.
