Cabarrus authorities seek man who offered young girl a ride

— Authorities in Cabarrus County say a man tried to pick up a young girl in a residential community Sunday, and they are asking the public’s help in finding the person.

The incident was reported about 4:30 p.m. in the Heatherstone subdivision, off Stallings Road near Rocky River Road in Harrisburg.

Investigators from the Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Office say the girl reported being approached by a black “work-style” van with tinted windows. The man allegedly showed the girl a picture of a dog and asked for help to find it.

When the girl refused, the man drove away. The girl told authorities he returned a few minutes later, told her she was pretty, and asked her to get in the van with him so they could find the dog.

The girl refused again, deputies say, and went home and told her parents. Deputies were sent to the area but did not find the vehicle.

The sheriff’s office is looking for people who might have seen the vehicle or who have outdoor surveillance systems in the Heatherstone neighborhood. The black van has a white mark on the driver’s side fender, the girl told investigators.

Anyone with information in the case is asked to call the sheriff’s office at 704-920-3057 or leave information with Crime Stoppers, 704-93-CRIME.
