Rain postpones parades in Hickory, Lancaster, SC

Observer Staff ReportsDecember 13, 2013

The threat of bad weather Saturday has forced officials in Hickory and Lancaster, S.C., to postpone their Christmas parades.

The National Weather Service is calling for a daylong rain, possibly heavy at times, with chilly temperatures.

The Hickory Jaycees said they received permission from city officials to postpone their parade to 4 p.m. next Saturday.

Meanwhile, officials in Lancaster said a number of parade participants had withdrawn from the event because of the rain threat, so the event there was rescheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday.

It appears that four other parades scheduled Saturday are still on.

Officials in Mount Pleasant said their parade, set for 11 a.m., will take place regardless of weather. There was no word about postponements of parades in Cherryville (10:30 a.m.), Kannapolis (6 p.m.) and the Lights on the Lake Parade (6:30 p.m.) on Lake Wylie.
