Local playwright’s comedy chosen for fest

Lake Wylie playwright Carol Butler’s play “Catch and Release” was selected with six other plays for the third annual 10-minute Comedy Playfest at The Warehouse of Performing Arts in Cornelius, N.C. Submission came from across the country.

Vito Abate of Charlotte is the managing director. Auditions have been under way to fill 25 roles necessary for a three-week run of the production.

All the plays are 10 minutes. The show runs Jan. 23-Feb. 9. Show times are 8 p.m. Thursdays-Saturdays and 2 p.m. Feb. 2 and Feb. 9.

General admission tickets cost $20; senior, student and group tickets cost $15.

Blood drive Thursday York County

Community Blood Center of the Carolinas will hold a blood drive 4-8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 26, at Regal Manchester Stadium, 1935 Cinema Drive, Rock Hill. Donors receive a free movie ticket.

The center is holding its ninth annual Puppies for Patients program through Dec. 31. Donors who give blood during this time will be able to sign a tag that will be attached to a stuffed toy puppy and delivered to children in area hospitals and care facilities during the holidays.

Libraries closed for holidays

All York County Libraries will be closed Dec. 24-26 for Christmas. Libraries will also close at 6 p.m. Dec. 31 and remain closed on Jan. 1 for New Year’s.

Library accepting food for fines

York County Libraries will be collecting “Food for Fines” through Dec. 31 to encourage the return of overdue library materials while giving back to the community.

Library users may pay off fines for overdue materials with nonperishable food and personal hygiene items. For each donated item, $1 will be credited to outstanding fines. It will not cover the cost of lost or damaged materials.

Nonperishable food items, toiletries and disposable diapers will be collected for local food banks. Library patrons are encouraged to participate even if they have no outstanding library fines.
