Smith to talk at Jan. 7 Rotary meeting

Lake Wylie Rotary Club meets at noon Tuesdays at Good Samaritan United Methodist Church, 5220 Crowders Cove Road.

On Jan. 7, former York County councilman Tom Smith, of May Green Properties, will talk about local development.

Relay for Life plans York kickoff

The Relay for Life of Western York County will have its annual kickoff celebration 6:30 p.m. Jan. 13 at Beth Shiloh Presbyterian Church, 1184 N. Shiloh Road.

The Western York County Relay for Life will be 11 a.m.-11 p.m. April 26 at York Middle School. Participants are welcome to join in several ways. The organization is looking for new teams, committee members and cancer survivors.

River Hills Women’s Club luncheon Jan.15

The River Hills Women’s Club will meet at noon Jan. 15 at River Hills Country Club.

Dick Mann, president of Lake Wylie EMS, will talk about medical changes that could have an impact on EMS in York County and also demonstrate the latest CPR method.

4-H Robotics Club meets Jan. 10

The Clemson Extension Service York County 4-H will sponsor a Robotics Club for ages 8 to 12 and will be limited to 12 members. Youth will use 4-H curriculum and use household items to build robots to learn different elements of robotics. The club will be led by volunteer leaders, Jennifer Walker and Patricia Hatch.

The club will meet each Friday at a leader’s home in York beginning Jan. 10 from 1 to 2:30 pm. Interested youth must register as 4-H member with a $10 state membership fee and there will be an additional club fee that will be discussed with parents when you register. The Catawba River Art Guild meets at 10 a.m. the second Wednesday of each month at the Arts Council of York County, 121 E. Main St.
