Run for God programs begin tonight

Good Samaritan United Methodist Church, 5220 Crowders Cove Road, will begin three running programs Tuesday, Jan. 14.

The couch to 5K Run for God program, and the new Run for God 10K and half marathon program will begin at 6:30 p.m., meeting Tuesdays for 12 weeks.

The nationwide couch to 5K program started with Mitchell Hollis of Dalton, Ga., donning a T-shirt declaring “Run for God” with a stick figure drawing. The program now is run in more than 400 churches in more than 40 states across the country. The program trains participants by walking for a minute and running 30 seconds for 30 minutes three times a week, until eventually being able to run 30 minutes to complete a 5K.

In December, Hollis released the 10K and half marathon program.

The 10K and half marathon programs will culminate April 12 at the Charlotte Race Fest 10K and Half Marathon. The 5K race is to be determined but will be the following weekend.

The book for the programs costs $19, plus the cost of the race and T-shirt.
