Charlotte-Mecklenburg police say a 12-year-old girl faces several charges after she allegedly stole a car, struck a Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools bus and another vehicle, and then drove off.
Three people, including the girl, were injured in the collision Wednesday evening in west Charlotte. None of the injuries was serious, authorities say.
The crash was reported about 5:05 p.m. at Mathis Drive and Parkway Avenue. That is between Tuckaseegee Road and Freedom Drive.
Police say a silver sedan struck a school bus, then clipped another car before being driven away. Officers found the sedan and its driver a short time later in a parking lot nearby. The girl, whose name has not been released, was taken to the hospital for treatment.
A spokeswoman for Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools said seven students were aboard Bus H619 from Ranson Middle School. Nobody aboard the bus was hurt.
Police say the 12-year-old was charged with two counts of hit-and-run, larceny of a motor vehicle, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of marijuana. She was taken to a juvenile detention facility after receiving medical treatment, police say.
