Oakridge basketball girls, 7th grade boys teams defeat Fort Mill

• The eighth-grade Oakridge Middle School girls’ basketball team beatFort Mill 36-22 Jan. 23. The Lady Golden Eagles have now won three straight games. Oakridge played an up and down first half, but played an outstanding second half; outscoring Fort Mill, 23-11, in the second half of play. Leading the way for the Lady Eagles were: Brenna Allen and Megan Hanson combined for 12 points, 5 rebounds, 3 steals, and played terrific defense on Fort Mill’s 6-foot-4-inch center; Madison Lybrand, 7 points, 4 rebounds, 7 steals, 2 assists; J’menii Isaac, 6 points, 7 steals; Amber Lipscomb, 6 points, 6 steals, 4 assists; Krystal Nielsen, 5 points, 2 rebounds.

• The OMS eighth-grade boys’ team lost Jan. 23 to Fort Mill Middle 26-23. Oakridge played well in the first half, but in the second half they weren’t as effective on either end of the court. Contributing for the Golden Eagles: Austin Gunnels, 7 points, 2 steals; Colby Ratliff, 7 points, 2 steals; Jonathan Harris, 4 points; Alex Raine, 3 points, 5 rebounds, 2 steals; Hunter Walden, 2 points; Kendall Strout, 5 rebounds, 2 steals.

• The seventh-grade girls’ tea, played their best basketball of the season Jan. 23, dominating Fort Mill 30-19. The first time these teams played, the Golden Eagles lost with just .1 of a second on the clock. But the team was determined not to let that happen again. The girls never trailed throughout the game. The ball moved effortlessly on offense as seven players got into the scorebook while dishing out nine assists. Defensively, the team forced one of the conference’s best players to shoot only 2 for 23 from the field on the night. The team forced 37 turnovers while only giving up the ball 15 times. Contributing for the Golden Eagles were: Tiffany Domingue, 9 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 steal; Shia Jones, 6 points, 8 rebounds, 1 steal; Tiona Walls, 4 points, 5 steals, 2 rebounds, 2 assists; Megan Bailey, 4 points, 6 rebounds, 1 assists; Deylan Harkey, 3 points, 1 rebound; Taylor Blake, 2 points, 3 rebounds, 2 steals, 2 assists; Emma Johnson, 2 points, 1 rebound, 1 assist; Kenzie Cook, 1 steal.

• The seventh-grade boys’ team won 18-15 in a hard fought battle at Fort Mill on Jan. 23. The team played stellar defense and owned the boards. Camden Largen and Blake Keffer both hit two clutch free throws in the final minute to put the game out of reach. Heze Massey once again led the team with 8 points and Chad Bradshaw added 6 points.
