OMS seventh grade and Lady Golden Eagles hoops teams end season strong with wins

• On Feb. 5, the seventh grade Oakridge Middle School girls’ basketball team ended the season on a four-game winning streak by defeating Rawlinson Road 27-12.

The team allowed only 4 points through the first three quarters. OMS dominated the boards collecting 30 rebounds on the night to go along with 17 steals. On offense, the Golden Eagles moved the ball to the open player collecting 10 assists on 13 baskets from the field.

Statistics include: Tiffany Domingue – 20 points, 9 rebounds, 7 steals, Tiona Walls – 5 points, 6 assists, 2 rebounds, 1 steal, Shia Jones – 2 points, 5 rebounds, 1 steal, Megan Bailey – 6 rebounds, 3 assists, Emma Johnson – 4 steals, 3 rebounds, Deylan Harkey – 2 rebounds, 2 steals, Taylor Blake – 2 rebounds, 1 steal, Kenzie Cook – 1 rebound, 1 steal, Kaitlin Pope – 1 assist, and Danielle Haley – 1 rebound.

• The seventh grade boys’ team finished the season strong Feb. 5 by beating York 28-23.

The team finished the season winning four of the past five games. The only loss was to Clover in double overtime.

Against York, the team was led by Camden Largen with 11 points, 4 rebounds, 4 steals, and a block and Heze Massey with 9 points, 3 rebounds, 2 steals. Other contributors: Chad Bradshaw- 4 points, 4 rebounds, 3 steals, 2 blocks, Jackson Zinser- 2 points, 1 rebound, Blake Keffer- 1 points, 1 rebound, 1 steal, and Collin Schmolze- 1 point, 3 rebounds.

• On Feb. 5, the eighth grade girls’ basketball team started off a playoff run dominating Castle Heights 41-21.

The Lady Golden Eagles played tremendous defense from the opening tip to the final buzzer. Oakridge also ran the offense well – passing, cutting and finishing with precision. Leading the way for OMS were: Ashley Atkinson - 2 points, 1 rebound, Amber Lipscomb - 8 points, 14 steals, 8 rebounds, 6 assists, 2 blocks, Madison Lybrand - 9 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, Brenna Allen - 12 points, 5 rebounds, 3 steals, Megan Hanson - 4 points, 5 rebounds, Emily Tsiukes - 2 points, 1 assist, and Annie Erven - 1 steal.

• The eighth grade boys’ team’s season came to an end Feb. 6 with a 38-35 loss to Sullivan.

Sullivan was in command through the first three quarters, but Oakridge was able to keep within striking distance. Down by 9 heading into the fourth quarter, OMS turned up the pressure and forced their opponents into multiple turnovers. The Golden Eagles out scored Sullivan 13-7 in the final period, but fell just short of forcing an extra period.

Contributing for the Golden Eagles: Colby Ratliff - 8 points, 4 rebounds, 5 steals, Hunter Walden - 7 points, 2 rebounds, 2 steals, Alex Raine - 6 points, 4 rebounds, David Saleeba - 5 points, 2 assists, Austin Gunnels - 5 points, Kendall Strout - 4 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals, and Luke Darling - 3 rebounds.

• The seventh grade Oakridge Middle School girls’ team won its third straight game, beating Gold Hill 31-21 on Jan. 30. The team struggled in the early going, but came on strong in the second half with high pressure defense, which created 20 steals. The team also dominated the boards with 43 rebounds on the night.

Stats for the Golden Eagles include: Tiffany Domingue – 18 points, 18 rebounds, 2 steals, 1 assist, Tiona Walls – 6 points, 7 steals, 6 rebounds, 1 assist, Megan Bailey – 4 points, 5 rebounds, 3 steals, 2 assists, Shia Jones – 3 points, 9 rebounds, 3 steals, Kenzie Cook – 2 rebounds, 1 steal, 1 assist, Emma Johnson – 3 steals, 1 rebound, Taylor Blake – 1 rebound, Danielle Haley – 1 steal, and Deylan Harkey – 1 rebound.

• The seventh grade boys’ team bounced back Jan. 30 with a 33-25 win against Gold Hill. The team played their most complete game of the year, especially defensively coming up with 10 steals.

The team was led by Camden Largen who had 10 steals, 3 assists, 3 rebounds and 5 points; Chad Bradshaw - 15 points, 7 rebounds; and James Linn - 8 points, 12 rebounds. Other contributors: Heze Massey - 4 points, 2 steals, and 2 assists, Blake Keffer - 3 rebounds, 3 steals, and Logan Pubenz - 1 point, 1 rebound.

• The eighth grade boys’ team defeated Gold Hill 50-37 Jan. 30. Contributing for the Golden Eagles: Alex Raine - 16 points, 6 rebounds, 3 steals, Kendall Strout - 7 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists, Will Griffith - 6 points, 4 rebounds, 2 steals, Colby Ratliff - 5 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals, Cade Pasuit - 5 points, 2 assists, Donovan Olivieri - 4 points, Jonathan Harris - 3 points, Jalik Stuckey and Luke Darling - 2 points each, Austin Gunnels - 3 rebounds, and Hunter Walden - 3 assists.
