Polar Plunge Feb. 22 for Special Olympics
ROCK HILL Area Eleven Special Olympics will host the third annual Frozen Fans Polar Plunge at noon Feb. 22 at Ebenezer Park on Lake Wylie. Registration begins 11 a.m.
Proceeds benefit Special Olympics athletes in York, Chester and Lancaster counties by providing year-round sports training and competition for local, state and national competitions.
A minimum $50 must be raised to take the plunge. Participants receive a Frozen Fans T-shirt. Fun costumes are encouraged. Registration is not necessary. For information, email firstname.lastname@example.org.
GOP group invites new members to Feb. 28 meeting
LAKE WYLIE The Clover-Lake Wylie Republican Womens Club welcomes newcomers, visitors and members to its Feb. 28 membership luncheon at River Hills Country Club.
Learn about the clubs 2014 goals and planned activities. Membership is open to women and men. At the luncheon, a gift will be awarded to a current club member who signs-up the most new members.
Featured speaker is Kim Wellman, newly-elected president of the S.C. Federation of Republican Women. Past president and member of the West Metro Republican Women in Lexington, Wellman is the assistant vice president of Corporate Marketing Communications for BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina. She has served in leadership positions for organizations including the Palmetto Place Childrens Emergency Shelter, Junior Womans Club of Columbia and the United Way of the Midlands. She currently serves on the development committee for The Childrens Trust of South Carolina.

Music Club marks 100 years
ROCK HILL The Rock Hill Music Club will celebrate its 100th anniversary with a concert at 3 p.m. March 9 in Byrnes Auditorium. Featured local performing musicians will be Maury Wilkinson and the Border Quintet, Mignon Eayre, Shirley Fishburne, Jerry Helton and Donald Moe.
The club was founded March 20, 1914, by Mrs. A.E. Smith and a group of ladies and has provided music awards and scholarships and free community concerts.
The Celebration Benefit Luncheon will be 11 a.m. March 29 at the Family Center of Grace Lutheran Church.
As part of the anniversary celebration, the club is granting 17 music awards and scholarships to Winthrop University, Northwestern, Rock Hill High, and South Pointe high schools, South Carolina Federation of Music Clubs Summer Scholarships, and Opera Experience Southeast.
Clover Optimists plan contest
CLOVER The Clover Optimist Club will host its annual oratorical contest for local youths 10 a.m. Saturday, March 29.
Youths will be asked to write and speak on the topic How my passions impact the world. The speech must be four to five minutes long.
Each contestant must prepare his or her own speech and may receive advice in the preparation.
The contest is open to all youths younger than 19. Parental permission is required.
The contest will be at the Clover Optimist Club, 1500 Tom Joye Road, Clover. Entrants should bring a copy of their speech, a copy of their birth certificate and the application.

Sweet Repeat seeks members, store volunteers
LAKE WYLIE Sweet Repeat Charitable Foundation needs volunteers and new members at its thrift shop in Lake Wylie.
Volunteers are asked to volunteer two to six hours a month. Proceeds from the thrift shop go to local charities. Membership applications are available at the store.

LAKE WYLIE Volunteer members the River Hills Lions Club are seeking advertising from local businesses for the communitys 2014 telephone directory.
Ads reach 1,100 River Hills residents. Proceeds help local charities, including River Hills/Lake Wylie EMS. In 2013, more than $50,000 in yellow page sales were donated. Organizations interested in placing an ad should email firstname.lastname@example.org.
