Robert Jackson receives Clover’s Mack McCarter award

February 11, 2014

— Retired Clover High School coach Robert Jackson has been honored with the town of Clover’s Mack McCarter Award.

Jackson, a former Clover Town Council member, coached basketball, football and baseball at CHS during an association with Blue Eagle athletics that spanned 41 years.

Council member Jay Dover, who announced the award, called Jackson a personal mentor whom “I came on the council with and really look up to.”

The award is sponsored annually by local engineering firm Joel Wood and Associates in honor of Eddie “Mack” McCarter, a former Clover public works director and volunteer fire chief for about 30 years. McCarter died about nine years ago.

The award is given for exemplary service to the community, concern for public welfare, commitment to excellence and dedication to the community. Previous recipients include the late state Rep. Herb Kirsh and former Mayor LeRoy Pendleton.
