BELMONT — Brad Thomas of Creative Solutions Special Events was elected to lead the Montcross Area Chamber Board of Directors at the Chamber’s 54th annual Meeting and Celebration held Jan. 23 in the Grand Hall of the Mount Holly Municipal Complex.
The chamber also celebrated a record year of accomplishment and growth, recording a 23-percent membership increase to an all-time high 431 members.

Thomas, also chairman of the Lake Wylie Marine Commission, called on chamber members and nonmember businesses to expect more this year.
The chamber presented three major awards during the program:
• Cottage Keepers, a property management and real estate firm in Belmont owned by Timothy Roberts, was named Business of the Year.
• The EPIC Award, recognizing an individual who is “entrepreneurial, progressive, innovative and collaborative,” went to Lyerly of Lyerly Agency, a marketing and advertising firm that relocated to Belmont in 2012 after 35 years in Charlotte.
• Brad Rivers, executive director of the Small Business Center at Gaston College, received the Harley B. Gaston Jr. Public Service Award. Named for a renowned attorney, judge and public servant in Gaston County, the award recognized Rivers for many years of service to the small businesses of the region.
