A brush fire in Gastonia burned down a barn and about 1.5 acres of land Saturday.

No injuries were reported, according to a news release from Crowder’s Mountain Fire & Rescue. Their firefighters, along with the Union Road Volunteer Fire Department and the Gastonia Fire Department responded to a call about the fire in the 4600 block of Chapel Grove Road about 4:30 p.m.

The barn, 20 feet by 30 feet, was destroyed, and the surrounding land was also burned, the release said. It took firefighters about 45 minutes to control the fire.

The blaze was caused by an uncontrolled burn that a nearby resident had started, the release said.
