River Hills church, All Saints join for Ash Wednesday service

Ash Wednesday service set

River Hills Community Church, 104 Hamilton’s Ferry Road, is holding Ash Wednesday service at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 5.

The congregation will be joined by All Saints Catholic Church in this ecumenical service. For more information, call 803-831-1615.

Church invites community to join challenge

During the season of Lent, from Ash Wednesday on March 5 through Easter Sunday on April 20, Good Samaritan United Methodist Church is asking others to help through The Upside Down Challenge.

For every mile walked, run or cycled, the church will donate 25 cents to a charity of the participant’s choice locally or globally. For every pound lost and every day someone stops smoking during Lent, the church will donate 25 cents to a chosen charity. The church will challenge up to $5,000.

The church challenge runs on an honor system with participants tracking their miles, weight, and days not smoking.

Sermon series begins March 9

Pleasant Hill Church, 15000 York Road, presents “Killing Jesus,” a sermon series beginning at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, March 9.

The series looks at the ways in which we “kill” Jesus through unfaithfulness, deliberate and unintentional.

Church will meet at Lake Pointe Academy

The Bridge Community Church, which meets at 10:30 a.m. Sundays at Clover High School, will be moving to Lake Pointe Academy Christian School, 3168 Hands Mill Hwy.

Pastor is Kevin Witt. Services in the new location will begin at 10 a.m. March 16 with coffee and doughnuts, and worship beginning at 10:30 a.m.

The Bridge Community Church has a Bible-based, informal and contemporary style of worship with Southern Baptist roots.

Take trip to Holy Land

Charles and Barbara Ford of Lake Wylie will host a trip to the Holy Land Nov. 5-15.

The Fords have lived in and visited Israel many times and have insight into the history, religion and modern day culture of this region, the birthplace of Christianity.

A series of pre-departure study sessions is being planned.

Dine for HOPE

The Waffle House-Lake Wylie and Knights of Columbus of All Saints Council No. 14475 are raising money for Operation HOPE (Helping Other People Everyday), a statewide campaign to help people with intellectual disabilities.

On the first Monday of each month, Waffle House will donate 20 percent of its proceeds to Operation HOPE. For more information, call 803-746-5464.

Community Cafe serves lunch Tuesdays

The Community Cafe offers free weekly lunches 11:30 a.m. - 2 p.m. Tuesdays at Lake Wylie Christian Assembly.

The Cafe at Lake Wylie Lutheran Church in Fort Mill serves lunch 11:30 a.m. - 2 p.m.

Scherer hosts moms

Scherer Presbyterian Church, 4800 Charlotte Hwy., hosts REST4Moms from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. the second Tuesday of the month.

Mothers begin the morning with coffee, tea and goodies, followed by topics of interest, crafts, conversation and discussion. Children are treated to crafts, snacks and playtime. Annual cost is $10.
