Hickory firefighters battle blaze in building with apartment

It took Hickory firefighters less than 30 minutes to control a blaze that started Saturday night at a metal building with a second floor apartment, officials said.

At 7:32 p.m., officials responded to reports of a structure fire at 1010 29th Ave. NE. The fire was in a metal building behind the residence. Hickory firefighters responded with three engines, one ladder truck, one rescue truck and two command units.

Catawba County EMS, Hickory Rescue, and Hickory Police Department responded to help. No injuries were reported and damages to the building were considered major.

Fire officials still are investigating the cause of the fire, officials said.
