Union County medical examiners are trying to determine what happened to a woman whose body was found inside a car early Sunday in Marshville.

Investigators haven’t released the name of the woman because they haven’t reached her family, said Patrolman W.E. Summey.

A group of people found her just after 3 a.m. in the car, parked on White Street in Marshville, which is just east of Monroe.

Police had not made any arrests by late Sunday, and have not released a motive in the case, which they are treating as a homicide. Several people had been interviewed in connection with the woman’s death.

Summey said investigators don’t believe the crime was a random act of violence.

Investigators are expected to release more information on Monday. Cleve R. Wootson Jr.
