OMS team qualifies for state
LAKE WYLIE Oakridge Middle School archery team qualified for state competition.
Two years previously, OMS had individual students qualify for state competition. However, this year the team finished high enough in regional competition to qualify as a team (24 members) for state competition. On March 28, the team will travel to Columbia and compete against 13 middle schools with aspirations of qualifying for national competition in Kentucky.
Team members are Lee Barnett, Dawson Beard, Matthew Bivins, Trevor Carter, Cory Chambers, Isaac Crago, Seth Curl, Julianys Gonzalez, Jacob Gunn, Jonathan Gunn, Danielle Haley, Lucas Hall, Michael Kramer, Conor Lee, Cameron McPherson, Jonathan Messer, Thomas McMahon, Nicholas Popichak, Kaitlyn Quigg, Alexa Roveri, Trevor Stevens, Ian Storms, Aliyah Strout, Chandler Thomas and Jay Watts.
Run for Kayla 5K Sunday
ROCK HILL Run for Kayla 5K will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 23, starting and finishing at the large pavilion area at Ebenezer Park, 4490 Boatshore Road.
Race day registration and packet pickup is from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.
Proceeds benefit Kalya Melendezs family, who have mounting medical expenses, and St. Judes pediatric cancer research.

OMS loses in opener
LAKE WYLIE Springfield defeated Oakridge Middle School, 7-3, in the season opener baseball game on March 10.
Bo Bodine pitched three innings and gave way to Garrett Bufford in the fourth. Bufford pitched two strong innings in relief. Leading the offense for Oakridge was Brandon Johnson 1 for 2, and Jake Hylinski 1for 3.
OMS wins 22-0 in two innings
LAKE WYLIE On March 11, the Oakridge Middle School softball team started the season in by beating Sullian 22-0 in only two innings of play. Every Lady Golden Eagle played a big part in this short outing.
Tiffany Dominique pitched a no-hitter, while striking out four batters, only walking one and earning the victory.
Leading the way on offense were Sydney Beatham - 3 for 3, double, triple, 3 stolen bases and 6 RBI; Tiffany Dominique - 3 for 3, double, 2 stolen bases, and 4 RBI; and Annie Erven - 3 for 3, 2 doubles, triple and 6 RBI.
OMS beats Clover, 4-0
LAKE WYLIE The Oakridge Middle School girls soccer team started the season with a 4-0 win March 11 against cross town rival Clover Middle.
Clover attempted a shot in the first 30 seconds of the game, but goalie Sydney Combs caught the attempt and the remaining four attempts made by the the Blue Eagles. Ashby Huckabee sent a pass to Janae Massey, who put the Lady Golden Eagles on the board. J'menii Isaac received a pass from Kayla Cruse midfield and made her way through several defenders to the goal. In the second half, J'menii received a pass from Emily Tsuikes to score her second goal of the day. After making a penalty kick, J'menii rounded out her hat trick and made the score 4-0, the final score of the game.
Highlights include: Isaac - 3 goals; Massey - 1 goal; Combs - 5 saves; Ashby Huckabee - 1 assist; Cruse - 1 assist; Tsuikes - 1 assist; Krystal Nielsen -1 save; and Alyssa Wartluft - 1 save.
USA Football camp coming to Rock Hill
ROCK HILL The Rock Hill/York County Convention & Visitors Bureau and Rock Hill schools will welcome the USA Football Regional Development Camp to South Pointe High School on April 12-13.
The USA Football Regional Development Camp is for athletes in seventh to 11th grades and focuses on development on and off the field. Participating athletes will have the opportunity to train with NFL and NCAA coaches, listen and learn from former NFL players, and receive an evaluation from an NFL or college scout.
